Parking clusters around the harbour — the Leopold Street multi-storey, the Meeting Street car park, and bays along Harbour Parade, East Crosswall and Pier Yard — all of which fill fast on a sunny day or when there's an event on the harbour turning circle. Push out to Pegwell, Cliffsend, Manston or up toward Northwood, St Lawrence and Nethercourt and it eases considerably, though those hilly residential streets have their own tight, parked-both-sides pinch points. And being a working harbour town wrapped around salt water, the corrosion tax applies here as much as anywhere on the coast: brake lines, subframes and exhaust components on cars living near Pegwell Bay or the harbour age faster than the mileage alone suggests.

Nobody enjoys nursing a sick car up out of Ramsgate's harbour bowl and through the one-way maze to find a garage. We reverse that entirely and come down to wherever you are — Harbour Parade, a steep terrace off Meeting Street, or out at Cliffsend or Manston. No hill starts on a dying clutch, no queuing back to Lord of the Manor, no leaving the car corroding by the water any longer than it must.
