How it works
An electric window uses a small motor driving a regulator — a scissor or cable-and-pulley mechanism that lifts and lowers the glass smoothly inside the door. Press the switch and the motor winds the glass up or down; many have anti-trap sensing that reverses if something's in the way. Wipers work similarly: a motor drives a linkage of arms and pivots that sweep the blades across the screen, while a separate pump pushes washer fluid through thin pipes to the jets. It's all tucked inside the door or under the scuttle panel, exposed to rain, grit and temperature swings — so plastic clips crack, cables fray, motors burn out and jets clog. When one part fails, the whole action stops.

My window is stuck down — can you get it up today?
Usually, yes. A window stuck down is a security and weather risk, so it's a priority. We can often manually raise and secure the glass on the spot to keep your car safe, then diagnose and fix the actual fault — commonly a failed regulator or motor. If we can't complete the full repair immediately, we'll at least get it closed and weatherproof before we leave.
Why is my window making a grinding noise but not moving?
That grinding is typically the motor still turning while the regulator mechanism or its cables have failed — the plastic guides crack or the lift cables fray and bunch up inside the door. The motor spins but the glass has nothing pulling it. It usually means the regulator needs replacing rather than the motor, which is often the cheaper of the two parts.
My wipers streak and judder — do I just need new blades?
Often, yes — perished or dirty blades are the most common cause of streaking and juddering, and new blades plus a clean screen fix most cases. If it persists, it can be a worn wiper linkage, a bent arm putting the blade at the wrong angle, or a tired motor. We'll check the blades first, then the mechanism, so you're not paying for parts you don't need.
