Battery Service
AKA 'Juice Box' — Dead battery? We'll bring the jump leads. And a new battery.
That clicking sound when you turn the key? Yeah, that's your battery giving up on life. We test, charge, fit, and bring batteries to you.
Quick Facts
What's This All About Then?
Nothing ruins your morning quite like a car that just sits there clicking at you sadly. Your battery is the heartbeat of your car's electrical system - when it dies, everything dies. We'll come to you (because you're not going anywhere, are you?), test your battery properly, and if it's toast, we'll fit a new one on the spot. No waiting for recovery, no towing to a garage, no sitting in Halfords wondering which battery is actually correct. We bring the right battery, we fit it, you drive off. Simple.
How it works
Your 12V battery does two jobs: it delivers the big burst of current that cranks the engine, and it steadies the electrical system. Once the engine is running, the alternator takes over — generating electricity to run everything and recharge the battery, with a voltage regulator keeping it in range (roughly 13.8–14.7V). If the alternator under-charges, the battery slowly goes flat; if it over-charges, it cooks the battery. Modern stop-start cars use special AGM or EFB batteries and usually need a new battery 'registered' to the car so the charging system treats it correctly.
Warning signs to watch for
- •Slow, laboured cranking — or just a click — when you turn the key
- •A battery or charging warning light on the dash
- •Dim or flickering lights, especially at idle
- •Electrical things misbehaving when the engine is off
- •Needing a jump-start, or the battery dying if the car sits for a few days
- •A swollen battery case or a sulphur / rotten-egg smell (overcharging)
Common causes
What we do
We test the battery's health and cranking ability, then test the charging system (alternator output and regulation) and check for parasitic drains and poor connections — so we fix the actual cause, not just the symptom. If you need a battery, we supply and fit the correct type (including the AGM/EFB batteries stop-start cars need), register/code it to the car where required, and take the old one away. All mobile — including roadside jump-starts and no-start call-outs.
Battery Service — FAQs
My battery is almost new but keeps going flat — why?
A young battery dying usually points elsewhere: a charging fault, a parasitic drain while parked, lots of short trips, or — on stop-start cars — a battery that was never registered. We test the whole circuit to find which it is.
Do you supply and fit the battery at my home?
Yes — we bring the correct battery for your car (including the AGM/EFB types stop-start cars need), fit it, register/code it where required, and take the old one away. Roadside and no-start call-outs too.
Why does a new battery need 'registering' on some cars?
Stop-start cars track the battery's age and condition to manage charging. Fit a new one without telling the car and it keeps using the old battery's profile, which can over- or under-charge the new battery and shorten its life. Registering resets that.
