It can, particularly on the 1.5 TDCi diesel and 1.0 EcoBoost with an economy-focused map. The extra low-down torque means you carry gears longer and use less throttle, which often shows up as a few more MPG on steady motorway driving. Drive it harder and you'll simply enjoy the extra pace instead.
